The Invincible Micro Business: Hacking Digital Transformation

At design pitch, we live for micro businesses.

A micro business is a term generally described as operating with fewer than 10 people. Surprisingly, micros make up 96% of the UK and are the backbone of industry and employment in this country. If you are one and reading this, welcome to the club.

So, why are they so popular? Micros are favored since they require very little startup capital and have low operating costs. They are often started as a hobby or side hustle that generates additional income for the owner or solopreneur. Micros usually sit in niches and become successful when they, equip their people, build process and arm themselves with tools or technology.

And it’s technology that leads me into this topic.

It is no secret at all that digital tools can drive innovation, streamline operations, and meet the needs of your customers. If done right, it can make you more competitive. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Digital Transformation

For many micro owners, ‘digital transformation’ can sound like something reserved for large companies with deep pockets and IT departments. But I can assure you it’s not. So, non-technical people are making digital technology decisions. What could go wrong?

5.2 million business owners use technology, and most are on the clock and managing the day-to-day themselves, wearing multiple hats. You are digitally transforming all the time, even without knowing it. So, being aware of the fact and being guided every step of the way is a journey every business can benefit from, especially small and rural ones. In fact, with a family’s livelihood at stake, you can’t afford to get it wrong.
