Dartmoor Construction
Background

Founded by a longstanding friendship, three close friends, Ash, Martin and Tom approached design pitch because they found us in a local Google search for local companies. They like what they saw.

The blend of marketing experience, creative and digital website skills was what sealed the deal as they were looking for all three to help with their start-up of the micro business.

The guys were very progressive as they recognised that a solid brand strategy is the foundation of a successful startup. After a few meets in the pub,  it was clear we were going to get along.

What we did

So, with not even a company name, we started with a blank piece of paper.

With many builders in the construction sector, the trio were clear they wanted to be focused on remote Dartmoor build and renovations. Firstly, we met over a cider initially (ha! Summer 2023 vibes) after work and did the fact finding to understand what the trio were all about and what they wanted to achieve with the new  business.

After that initial input we went away and looked at the construction market, customer segments, competitors and started to build attributes of what the brand DNA could be. With all this insight buzzing around to hand we all settled on a brand name.

Workshops
Next we worked through our brand workshop process to agree values and brand characteristics to create the Dartmoor Construction brand personality. Brand personality informs the audience, while characteristics are how Dartmoor Construction is perceived by those it interacts with. Behaviors, by comparison, are how Dartmoor Construction  acts within the context of the world around it.

And we had a concrete (excuse pun) personality and brand strategy to work up into a logo and develop a styleguide to keep creative consistent going forward. This was important to the lads as to keep costs down they needed to work with third parties to print merchandise and have signs made etc.

Website
With a full creative direction we tackled the website at with the most cost-effective approach for the start-up.  Designs were submitted up-front along with some creative writing and it was at this point we tackled a value statement, which would quickly state what the company is all about. ‘Creating beautiful rural homes naturally’. With everyone on board and a couple photo shoots later, we were ready to write content which would align with the value proposition. This was much easier because of all the groundwork we had done. The slow start meant we could race towards the finish line with a clear view of what to say.

Socials
It was time to launch. Social media is a free platform to promote service, so we were obviously going to provide a little help to the boys to get started after the website investment. We created optimised logos that would work and advised on the idea of a content calendar to keep posts regular and grow the audience.

Launch
The soft go to market launch went smoothly online and DC got busy with ordering merchandise and work signs to promote in localised areas to increase brand awareness and start banging the Dartmoor Construction drum. We took the website under our wing with our website care package.

Ash, Martin and Tom were a pleasure to work with and we wish them all the best with their new Devon micro-business.
